Chapin Society Records

Abstract

The Chapin Society records are mostly comprised of materials generated for the organization’s annual meetings, also called annual dinners. These materials include invitations, programs, attendee lists, award winner lists, and correspondence, especially between the Chapin Society president or executive secretary and the Beloit College Development Office. Also included are many annual member lists and records of their donations.

Charles Winter Wood collection

Abstract Charles Winter Wood, class of 1895, was one of Beloit College's earliest African American students and an accomplished theatre actor and professor of English at the Tuskegee Institute. Wood entered Beloit College Academy in 1887 and joined the college proper in 1891. Although he played on Beloit's popular football team, he became best known for his public speaking and acting. Civil War Collection

This collection gathers primary and secondary source materials regarding Beloit College's involvement in the Civil War.
